The Union Ministry of Human Resource Development (HRD) launched National Digital Library of India (NDLI) on the occasion of National Reading Day (observed on June 17)New Delhi. NDLI's objective is to make dogital educational resources availble to all citizens of the country to empower, inspire and encourage learning.

NDLI is project of Ministry of HRD under the aegis of National Mission on Education through Information and Communication Technology (NMEICT)
The annual remembrance day of P N Panicker on 19th June is observed as the ‘Day of Reading’ by the Govt. of Kerala for the past 21 years with week-long activities at schools and public institutions to honour the contribution of P N Panicker to the cause of literacy and education and propagating the message of ‘Reading for Inclusive Growth’.
